The most prestigious event of the World League will kick off on November 19 in Rio de Janeiro, and it promises to be bigger than ever, featuring eight Unity teams competing for the
title of World No. 1.
Current World No. 1 Israel will be seeded at the top of one group as they attempt to defend their Grand Prix title, while host nation Brazil will be seeded at the top of the other group. After three rounds of group-stage matches, the tournament will be decided on the final day: the two group winners will face each other for the World No. 1 ranking, the runners-up will compete for the bronze medal and a place in the next Grand Prix, the third-placed teams will battle for qualification to the Masters Tournament, and the fourth-placed teams will fight for seventh place, which guarantees survival in the elite division.
In addition, World League Commissioner Salvatore Primicerio announced the inauguration of the World League Hall of Fame:
“Every year, we will induct two new members into the World League Hall of Fame. In Rio de Janeiro, we will welcome the first two inductees, whose names will be announced soon. They will be individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the World League from a sporting, promotional, and human perspective.”
Broadcast coverage of the Rio event is also expected to expand compared to the previous Grand Prix in Israel, which was televised in 13 countries.
